While the power play, especially in a stint that lasted more than six minutes in the first, left something to be desired, the Barons didn't commit costly penalties to give Hamilton chances on the power play.

The Barons were penalized just twice, a pair of second-period minors, in a 3-0 win over the Bulldogs on Tuesday.

“It's amazing what happens when you bring out the weighted sticks and make them run through the drills with them,” Barons coach Todd Nelson said. “It sort of drives the point home.”

The penalty total was the Barons' least since Feb. 18, when they were penalized just once in a 3-2 win over Milwaukee.

Three stars

1. Antti Tyrvainen, Barons

Tyrvainen scored his first short-handed goal of the season — the team's eighth — to ignite the Barons 43rd win.

2. David LeNeveu, Barons

LeNeveu has been used primarily to give Yann Danis a rest during three-games-in-three night stretches lately, but took advantage of the midweek start to post his second shutout of the season.
