POWER PLAY ON FIRE

The Barons scored two power play goals Friday night in a 4-3 win over Abbotsford. Six games into the season, the Barons power play (28.0 percent) ranks third in the 30-team American Hockey League.

Oklahoma City's top 5-on-4 unit scored both power play goals. Linus Omark scored late in the first period for a 2-0 lead. Derek Nesbitt scored with the man advantage early in the second period.

For the season OKC is 7-of-25 on the power play.

“We also scored a goal on a delayed penalty,” said Barons coach Todd Nelson. “The guys are working well together. Our penalty kill also has been strong even though they got one on us tonight. Special teams are key. Right now, I'm happy with how they're rolling for us.”

The Edmonton Oilers recalled defenseman Denis Gresbeshkov, who was in Oklahoma City on a conditioning assignment. Gresbeshkov, who played in three games with the Barons, is a 30-year-old veteran with 227 NHL games experience and has played in 144 games in Russia's pro league.

The Barons signed defenseman Erik Burgdoerfer to an American Hockey League contract. Burgdoerfer, 24, has registered 53 points in 202 games in the ECHL the past four years. After he signed with OKC, Burgdoerfer was reassigned to Bakersfield.
