OKC Barons notebook: Barons' power play is on fire

The Barons scored two power play goals Friday night in a 4-3 win over Abbotsford. Six games into the season, the Barons power play (28.0 percent) ranks third in the 30-team American Hockey League.

Center Ryan Martindale is undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery and will be sidelined four to six weeks. ... Defenseman Brandon Davidson was a healthy scratch Friday but will play in Saturday's 7 p.m. rematch with Abbotsford. ... Every Saturday night the Barons give away a new vehicle. The second giveaway is a 2013 Dodge Avenger.


Bakersfield, the Edmonton Oilers' Double-A affiliate, featured a unique promotion at its home opener Friday night in California. Team officials gave away Angry Birds plush hats, a takeoff from a bizarre incident that occurred last season. During the national anthem at a game in February, an Andean condor named Queen Victoria got loose in Rabobank Arena.

The Bakersfield hockey franchise has concocted unique promotions over the years. In addition to Charlie Sheen Night, the Condors have given away a cemetery plot and offered pop star Justin Bieber a contract.
