Making his seventh consecutive start, veteran goaltender Yann Danis recorded 19 saves in the Barons' 4-1 win over Hamilton on Tuesday night at the Cox Convention Center.
Improving to 20-14-5 for the season, Danis is 4-1-2 with a 2.09 goals-against average and .915 save percentage since returning from Edmonton three weeks ago.
“Now that he's gotten a lot of consecutive starts he's getting into a groove,” said Barons coach Todd Nelson. “I'm going to play him as much as I can down the stretch.”
THE CHEECHOO SONG
Aaron Bell, a bearded fan who lives in Flagstaff, Ariz., created a corny but humorous YouTube song dedicated to Jonathan Cheechoo when he played with the San Jose Sharks. Bell updated the song when Cheechoo was traded to Ottawa. He made a third version when Cheechoo played with Peoria in the AHL.
The Barons mailed Bell two jerseys and asked him to make an OKC version, which they played on the scoreboard after Cheechoo scored the go-ahead goal Tuesday night.
“It's fun for the fans,” Cheechoo said. “It's something that's good for the kids. They enjoy it.”
