The Oklahoma City Fire Department provides free smoke detectors to people who can't afford them, individuals living in homes with children, the elderly and people with disabilities. Firefighters will install the alarms and new batteries for people who need assistance. To participate, stop by a fire station or call the fire department's smoke detector program at 297-3318. Residents of other communities should check with their fire departments.
