A man died this evening after shooting himself in the throat during a game of Russian roulette, police said.

The man, 18, was home with his 14-year-old brother when he fired one bullet beneath his chin about 4:50 p.m., Oklahoma City police Lt. Jeff Cooper said.

He was taken to a local hospital where he died, Cooper said.

Cooper said a revolver fired the fatal shot, but did not say who owns the firearm.

The 14-year-old said the older brother placed the gun to his throat and fired the shot, Cooper said.

The man’s name has not been released by police, but a neighbor identified him as Elisio Perez Jr., the second-oldest in a family with five children.

“Elisio Jr. was a real kind-hearted person. It’s kind of shocking what happened. It’s very, very tragic,” Dale “Butch” Victor said.

Victor has lived next door to the Perez residence, 3840 NW 11, since the family bought the home eight years ago. Interactions have always been cordial, Victor said.

“They’re a real nice family. They’d have cookouts and send food over because it’s just me and my dogs living here,” Victor said.
