Jack Blaess, a 20-year-old Edmond North graduate and student at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., got a group together to run in honor of those serving in the military.

For the final small stretch of the run, all five members of the relay team returned to the course, with one carrying an American flag across the finish line.

“We just wanted to honor the troops that are fighting, partially, because of this,” Blaess said, referring to terrorism.

The marathon is run in memory of those lost in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.

The number of runners who finished the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon on Sunday was 2,643.

Of that number, 1,118 runners were women and 1,525 were men. The average time for Sunday's marathon was 4:49:09.

In the half-marathon, 8,138 runners finished the race — 4,982 women and 3,156 men.
