The Oklahoma City RedHawks extended their win streak to seven games Thursday with a 9-1 Pacific Coast League baseball triumph over the Nashville Sounds at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. A crowd of 3,112 endured 40-degree temperatures and 24 mph wind that blew in from left field.
ON THE MOUND
Five pitchers combined to limit Nashville (7-18) to a run on five hits. Asher Wojciechowski was impressive in his first Triple-A start. He allowed the Sounds' only run on three hits in four innings. Wojciechowski walked one and struck out a game-high five in a no decision. He was promoted to Oklahoma City from Double-A Corpus Christi, where he was 2-1 with a 2.08 ERA. ... Reliever Josh Zeid improved to 2-0 after blanking Nashville on no hits, no walks and three strikeouts. ... OKC rocked Nashville starter Zach Kroenke (0-4) for four runs on six hits in 41/3 innings.
AT THE PLATE
The first-place RedHawks (17-10) finished with 11 hits, including four from Jonathan Villar. He doubled, homered, scored three times and collected five RBIs. Villar added his eighth stolen base of the season ... Jimmy Paredes had three hits, including a triple for OKC. ... Jake Elmore also tripled. ... Caleb Gindl had two of Nashville's hits.
The Houston Astros called up RedHawks pitchers Jordan Lyles and Dallas Keuchel. Lyles started for the Astros on Thursday night against Detroit. ... Jared Cosart (3-0, 2.63 ERA) was named RedHawks Pitcher of the Month by the Astros. Marc Krauss was OKC's Player of the Month after batting .333 with six homers and 25 RBIs.
Oklahoma City hits the road for a four-game series against Iowa in Des Moines. Brett Oberholtzer (1-2, 7.79) is the RedHawks' scheduled starter, while Drew Carpenter (1-3, 7.77) will throw for Iowa. The Cubs (9-16) had their series finale Thursday night against Round Rock postponed due to winterlike weather. Game time Friday is 7:05 p.m. ...
