ROUND ROCK, Texas — Mike Hessman and Brad Snyder homered Saturday night to help the Oklahoma City RedHawks beat Round Rock 8-5 in Pacific Coast League baseball before 9,242 fans at The Dell Diamond.
Hessman's homer was his team-high 19th of the season, putting him half way from the Oklahoma City franchise record for most in a season. Dave Roberts hit 38 in 1965 for the 89ers. Hessman's two-run blast came in the fifth inning in which the RedHawks scored five runs off Round Rock starting pitcher Zach Jackson. Snyder's 10th homer of the year also came in the fifth as Oklahoma City took a 6-2 lead.
Landon Powell added a solo homer in the eighth inning for the South Division-leading RedHawks (41-28).
Last-place Round Rock (30-40) rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning against reliever Juan Abreu. But Abreu avoided further damage when he struck out former RedHawks star Julio Borbon to end the game.
Starting pitcher Armando Galarraga won his first game with Oklahoma City since he was signed by the Houston Astros. Galarraga allowed two runs on three hits in five innings. Middle reliever Aneury Rodriguez was impressive for the Hawks, blanking Round Rock on two hits and two strikeouts in three innings. Rodriguez threw 34 pitches, with 27 going for strikes.
