OKC RedHawks: New Orleans homers, solid pitching doom RedHawks

NEW ORLEANS — Mark Canha and Kyle Jensen hit home runs Monday, leading New Orleans to a 6-2 rout of Oklahoma City in Pacific Coast League baseball before 2,998 fans at Zephyrs Field.

Jensen gave the Zephyrs (20-24) a 1-0 lead in the second inning with his seventh homer of the season. Canha added his seventh, a three-run shot in the third inning, that gave New Orleans a 4-0 advantage. The Zephyrs added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, which were enough to complement a strong pitching performance from starter Alex Anabia.

The right-hander blanked Oklahoma City on three hits, no walks and a game-high five strikeouts over five innings. Rett Varner added two scoreless inning in relief, before the RedHawks scored twice in the eighth inning against Dan Jennings. Robbie Grossman and Jon Singleton put the Hawks on the board with run-scoring hits.

Oklahoma City (24-21) has lost three straight.

The series continues with a 7 p.m. game Tuesday. Jake Buchanan (3-3, 3.19) will start on the mound for Oklahoma City, while Brian Flynn (4-2, 3.27) will throw for the Zephyrs.

•The Houston Astros traded Oklahoma City reliever Raul Valdes to Toronto in exchange for a player to be named later or cash. The left-hander made eight appearances for both Oklahoma City and Houston this season. With the RedHawks, Valdes was 1-0 with a 3.48 ERA.
