OKC RedHawks: Round Rock evens series at a game apiece after beating Hawks

Houston Astros call up utility player Brian Bixler and pitcher Fernando Abad. The series continues at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Round Rock 8, RedHawks 3

The Express evened the four-game series against Oklahoma City on Friday night at a game apiece by pounding out 15 hits against four RedHawk pitchers. Round Rock rallied from a 2-0 deficit after the first inning.

The RedHawks are now 2-4 on their eight-game homestand. Round Rock has won four of its last five.

AT THE PLATE

Both Tommy Mendonca and Yangervis Solarte homered for Round Rock. Solarte was 2-for-5 with three RBIs.

RedHawks catcher Carlos Corporan hit a solo homer in the sixth inning, the only extra base hit for Oklahoma City in the game. The RedHawks had just five hits against three Round Rock hurlers.

ON THE MOUND

RedHawks starter Aneury Rodriquez, coming off a rough outing Saturday when he allowed six runs, lasted just 32/3 innings. He gave up eight hits and three earned runs, falling to 1-3 on the season.

Oklahoma City reliever Juan Abreu gave up both Express home runs, and his ERA has ballooned to 10.03.

Round Rock starter Martin Perez improved his record to 2-2 by tossing six innings and giving up three earned runs. Mark Hamburger and Tanner Scheppers combined to pitch three innings of scoreless relief.

ON THE RISE

RedHawks utility player Brian Bixler and pitcher Fernando Abad were called up Friday to the Houston Astros. It's the second stint this season with the parent club for both players.

UP NEXT

Oklahoma City's Paul Clemens (1-1, 1.59) will take the mound Saturday night for the RedHawks against Round Rock's Neil Ramirez (2-1, 2.14). Game time is 7:05 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
