METAIRIE, La. — The Oklahoma City RedHawks started strong and routed the New Orleans Zephyrs 8-1 Tuesday night at Zephyr Field.
Red Hawks starter Paul Clemens (1-0) was masterful, throwing five scoreless innings. He allowed three hits with no walks and six strikeouts.
New Orleans starting pitcher Brian Flynn (0-1) was roughed up for eight runs and 10 hits over 41/3 innings. He finished with three walks and five strikeouts.
OKC got a first-inning, three-run home run from Max Stassi and cruised to the win. Gregorio Petit, George Springer and Austin Wates had two hits apiece for OKC (4-2).
The series resumes at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning. Right-hander Collin McHugh starts for OKC, opposed by New Orleans’ Bryan Evans.
