NEW ORLEANS — Nick Green's two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning Monday night lifted New Orleans over Oklahoma City 4-3 in Pacific Coast League baseball at Zephyrs Field. Green's game-winning hit came against closer Jose Valdez, who blew his second consecutive save after starting the season 22 for 22 in successful chances.
The RedHawks (38-26) never trailed Monday's game until Green's single sailed over the head of left-fielder Jake Goebbert. Bryan Petersen and Scott Cousins scored the tying and winning runs as 4,475 fans celebrated.
Former big-league pitcher Armando Galarraga, throwing in his first game for Oklahoma City as a Houston Astros signee, had a solid outing. He blanked New Orleans (33-31) on two hits, two walks and a strikeout in 42/3 innings. Galarraga threw 57 pitches with 34 of those strikes. Galarraga played for the RedHawks during the 2007 season, when he was a Texas Rangers prospect.
Angel Sanchez hit his fourth home run of the season for Oklahoma City. Brandon Barnes extended his hit streak to 11 games and added two RBIs to help the RedHawks hold 2-0 and 3-2 leads.
Oklahoma City continues an 11-game road trip at 7 p.m. Tuesday in New Orleans. Paul Clemens (7-4, 6.10 ERA) is the RedHawks' scheduled starting pitcher. Alex Sanabia (4-4, 3.48) will throw for the Zephyrs, who drew within five games of the first-place RedHawks with Monday night's win.
