OKC roller derby team raising money to keep banked track in Oklahoma

Will the days of banked track roller derby in Oklahoma soon be over?

Not if the OKC Outlaws have anything to say about it.

The state’s only banked track team has launched an Indiegogo campaign to save its track, which was featured in Drew Barrymore’s 2009 film “Whip It.” The track is currently owned by a group of investors.

“Roller derby is more popular than it has ever been, and there are only a few banked track teams in the nation,” Spazoholic explains in the campaign video.

The team has set a goal of $27,000 and have 42 days left to reach it. If you pledge, you can receive merchandise and/or tickets to upcoming bouts.

In addition to securing the track, the Outlaws also hope to use the money to find a warehouse location to practice in.

“Please help us make our derby dreams come true,” Whoop C. Daisy said.
