OKC Thunder notebook: Kevin Durant blames loss on his late defensive lapse

Durant: “I messed the game up at the end, got lost and (Nic Batum) hit a three. I can't do that to my team.”

With the Thunder trailing by one in the final minute and needing a late stop, Kevin Durant fell asleep.

Out of a timeout, the Blazers dialed up a perfect play call, running Nic Batum off a pindown screen, which Durant failed to fight through, leading to a wide-open three that essentially sealed the Blazers' 111-104 win on Wednesday night.


Durant, after the game, blamed the loss on that late defensive lapse.

“I messed the game up at the end, got lost and (Batum) hit a three,” Durant said. “I can't do that to my team. Unfortunate loss for us. I felt like we had that game.”


Throughout a physical second-half, Russell Westbrook had a few rough falls, barreling into the teeth of the Portland defense with his kamikaze style.

And toward the end of the game, Westbrook was seen limping, a scary sign for Thunder fans who know his recent injury history.

But postgame, although Westbrook didn't talk to the media, he didn't look injured and a Thunder spokesman said he was fine.
