OKC Thunder notebook: Kevin Durant blames loss on his late defensive lapse

Durant: “I messed the game up at the end, got lost and (Nic Batum) hit a three. I can't do that to my team.”

Same story, different night: The Thunder starters had a combined plus/minus of minus-35, while the bench played relatively well, keeping their plus/minus at exactly even. That has been a recurring trend of late, with the Thunder continually looking better when it has at least a couple bench players on the floor.

BEST THUNDER SECOND-UNIT EVER?

Before the game, Durant was asked whether this Thunder second-unit, which has played so well in the early portion of the season, was the team's best since moving to OKC.

His answer: “We had a really good bench with James Harden and Nick Collison, Daequan Cook and Eric Maynor, Nazr Muhammad. These guys are on their way up. Like I said, it's too early to tell right now, this is their 17th game of the season. Only time will tell. But right now, they're definitely on their way.”

QUOTABLE

Blazers coach Terry Stotts when asked if Kevin Durant was still getting better: “When you have great players like that, whether it's LeBron James or Durant or Kobe, the changes are more subtle. But I think his demeanor and confidence about how to win games and how to carry a team has improved.”

The Thunder finish this three-game road trip in New Orleans on Friday night, facing the Pelicans, who will be without Anthony Davis, their best player. Tip is at 7.
