OKC Thunder notebook: Two different takes on rivalries

If you were to rank the Thunder's rivals, San Antonio would certainly be at or near the top of the list.

But not according to Kevin Durant, who shot down the idea of the Thunder even having a rival.

“It's hard to be a rivalry in the NBA unless you play consecutive playoff series against each other,” Durant told reporters at shootaround on Saturday. “We play so many games. Players move, coaches move. So it's hard to find a rivalry in the NBA.”

Russell Westbrook, meanwhile, gave an opinion on the subject that you'd expect out of him.

“We got a rivalry with every team, if you ask me,” he said.

With the Spurs' stars resting against Golden State on Thursday, there was a sense that both of these Western Conference heavyweights would clash at full strength on Saturday night.

But less than two hours before tip, Spur coach Gregg Popovich revealed the bad news, announcing starting forward Kawhi Leonard would miss the game against the Thunder after a dental procedure.

“It's huge,” Popovich said. “He's like the only one who has a chance of staying in front of (Durant).”
