OKC Thunder: Russell Westbrook named Western Conference Player of the Week

Russell Westbrook has been named Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Feb. 4 through Feb. 10, the NBA announced Monday.

Westbrook led the Thunder to a 4-0 record during the week and averaged 21.8 points, three rebounds, six assists and 3.3 steals.

The Thunder defeated Dallas, Golden State and Phoenix twice in the week.

Westbrook garnered national attention for the wrong reasons on Jan. 31, during a game against Memphis. On-court miscommunication with teammate Thabo Sefolosha led to Westrbook being takent out of the game and storming into the tunnel to blow off steam. The outburst overshadowed how well Westbrook played in that game.

This is the first time this season that Westbrook has earned Player of the Week honors. He received the award twice last year.

Miami forward LeBron James won Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors.

Westbrook is averaging 22.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 8.1 assists this season. James, Chris Paul and Gary Payton are the only other players since 1992 to average at least 21 points, eight assists and five rebounds.
