For the second time in three seasons, the Thunder's Scott Brooks will be the Western Conference coach in the NBA All-Star Game Feb. 16 in New Orleans.
With Portland's loss to Memphis on Tuesday night dropping the Blazers three games behind the Thunder in the standings, OKC is assured of having a better record than Portland on Sunday, when the deadline hits to set the coaches.
Spurs coach Gregg Popovich is ineligible for the honor, since he was last year's All-Star coach and the NBA doesn't allow back-to-back appearances.
Brooks coached the 2012 game, with his West team beating the East 152-149. Kevin Durant was the MVP that year, going for 36 points and seven rebounds.
And at this year's event, Durant will lead his team again, having been named an All-Star last week after leading the conference in fan votes.
The Pacers' Frank Vogel will be the Eastern Conference coach. The Thunder, at 36-10, is currently a half-game ahead of Indiana (34-9) for the best record in the NBA.
