The Thunder acquired the rights to Greek forward Georgios Printezis in the deal that sent backup point guard Eric Maynor to Portland.

So is Printezis just a player to fulfill an obligation -- NBA rules mandate teams making a trade to receive at least a player or draft pick -- or a future asset Sam Presti can have stashed overseas?

Printezis is 27. Last summer, he hit the game-winning shot over Andre Kirilenko to give his team its first Euroleague championship since 1997.

“I think he could do well in the NBA as a backup 4 man,’’ an NBA scout told Marc Berman of the New York Post. “He used to attack the rim a lot more than he does right now. Now he plays more on the perimeter. He’s a tough player who will give his team a lot of intangibles. Loose balls, rebounds, steals, good defensive position."

It's also possible the 6-foot-9 Printezis could be merely an NBA footnote. The Thunder is the fifth NBA team to hold his rights since 2007. He turned down a reported league-minimum contract offer to join the Knicks last summer.
