Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett will take on 11 other mayors from across the country this football season in a fantasy football league, with the winner earning $15,000 for charity.
Cornett will join mayors from cities including Kansas City, Oakland, San Francisco and Tampa Bay in the Yahoo! Sports Mayoral Face-off. The fantasy football season will begin Sept. 10 and end Dec. 28. The mayor who gets the most support from other fantasy football fans will also win $15,000 for charity.
Each mayor picked a non-profit sports program in their hometown. Cornett’s charity is the Police Athletic League.
The league will work like most fantasy football leagues. The mayors will pick their teams in an online draft. Each week, they will decide which players to start. The players earn points for their real-world performances that week.
Cornett, who was a sports broadcaster before running for city council, said he has played more fantasy baseball than fantasy football, but he plays against his wife, kids and the family dog in a fantasy football league each year.
