Oklahoma 2010 Elections — Ad watch: Lamb runs response ad

What the ad says: "Kenneth Corn is running a false, negative campaign," a male announcer says. "The district attorney says Kenneth Corn's attacks are absolutely false. Todd Lamb has never been a part of any investigation. Even worse, Kenneth Corn knows his attacks are false because he voted for the same bill." A female announcer says: "Todd Lamb — a devoted family man. He served with honor in the U.S. Secret Service and helped bring good jobs to our state. Todd Lamb — ready to lead Oklahoma forward. Todd Lamb for lieutenant governor."

What the ad shows: The first half of the ad, mostly in black and white, claims Democratic lieutenant governor candidate Kenneth Corn is running a false and negative campaign, and includes statements from Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater saying Lamb was never part of an investigation and that Corn voted for the same bill. The second half of the ad is in color and shows Lamb with his family, serving in the U.S. Secret Service and talking with constituents.

Analysis: The ad is Republican lieutenant governor candidate Todd Lamb's response to an ad by Corn, which tries to link Lamb to a political corruption investigation over a bill passed this year that would have created an $80,000-a-year state job for a legislator. Lamb and Corn, both state senators, each voted for the measure; Corn, of Poteau, criticized Lamb, the Senate floor leader from Edmond, for being a member of a conference committee who signed the measure which allowed it to advance to a vote in the chamber. Ashley Kehl, Lamb's campaign manager, says the ad is "basically to just get the truth out, to point out the innuendos that were in Kenneth Corn's ad, to distinguish the fact that Todd was not involved at all during this investigation because that is clearly what the ad is insinuating." Michael Carrier, Corn's campaign manager, said he challenged Prater to name one word in the Corn ad that is false or misleading. "It's interesting to us that Todd Lamb never proclaims his own innocence," Carrier said. "He says that David Prater says he's innocent. But how does David Prater know he's innocent? Did David Prater question Todd Lamb? Did Todd Lamb voluntarily go in and talk to David Prater? Did an investigator in David Prater's office ever talk to Todd Lamb? How can you clear somebody if you've never talked to them?"
