Oklahoma 2014 offensive tackle target Ty Barrett will announce college choice Saturday evening

NORMAN — Oklahoma football coaches will meet fans Saturday morning, address the media a few hours later, then await the decision of an important 2014 offensive line prospect.

Ty Barrett, a 6-foot-4, 309-pound tackle from Skyline (Dallas) High, will choose between Oklahoma, Ole Miss, TCU and Texas Tech on Saturday evening. He’ll announce his future college at around 6:30 p.m. on his Twitter account (@TyBarret).

The Sooners have two former Skyline players on their current roster — starting linebackers Corey Nelson, a senior, and Frank Shannon, a sophomore.

Barrett would be an important commitment because Oklahoma hasn’t recruited offensive tackles particularly well in recent years. It’s part of the reason coach Bob Stoops fired offensive line coaches James Patton and Bruce Kittle and hired Bill Bedenbaugh, who carried a reputation into Norman as an ace recruiter.

Bedenbaugh has yet to land an offensive tackle commitment since arriving at Oklahoma, but has picked up pledges from three-star, 2014 guard Alex Dalton (Troy, Ohio), and Casady guard Josh Wariboko-Alali, a 2015 prospect.
