EDMOND — With 12 days to go before the primary election, candidates for Oklahoma's only open seat in the U.S. House are making their pitches at a political forum.

Democrat Tom Guild and Republicans Patrice Douglas, Shane Jett, Clark Jolley, Steve Russell and Harvey Sparks spoke at Thursday's forum sponsored by the Edmond Chamber of Commerce.

Twelve candidates are seeking the seat being vacated by two-term Republican Rep. James Lankford, who is stepping down to run for the position held by GOP U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn, who is retiring.

The primary is set for June 24, while runoff elections, if necessary, will be Aug. 26. The winners will meet three independent candidates who are also running for the seat in the Nov. 4 general election.
