NORMAN — This year's Oklahoma Aerospace & Defense Summit & Expo will feature senior leaders from all five state military installations plus the Oklahoma National Guard, organizers said.
The event will be Monday through June 6 at the Embassy Suites Norman Hotel and Conference Center.
Each year, the summit alternates between Tulsa and the Oklahoma City
A round-table during the main conference day, Tuesday, will feature representatives from Tinker Air Force Base, Altus Air Force Base, Vance Air Force Base, Fort Sill, McAlester Army Ammunition Plant and the Oklahoma National Guard.
“They may have common interests and needs they're not aware of because they don't have a common forum,” Berry said.
Session topics on that day include government contracting trends, unmanned aircraft systems, NextGen (the Federal Aviation Administration's Next Generation Air Transport System) and National Association of Manufacturers' workforce certifications.
Day three of the summit is the education and industry partnership day. More than 100 educators across the state will learn how to prepare students for aerospace careers. They will attend workshops focused on K-12 aerospace curriculum and be mentored by industry leaders.
“A critical component for success in our industry and the global economy is an educated and skilled workforce. It begins at home and in the classroom,” said Jennifer Hogan, a spokeswoman for Boeing, one of the summit's sponsors.
