Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson is warning Oklahomans who want to provide aid to Haitians to be careful.

Edmondson said do your homework before donating to charities. People should ask for written information before donating and beware of charities with names that sound similar to a legitimate charity. People should not feel pressured into donating money.

Edmondson said there have been no reports of fraud. Anyone with information regarding suspected fraud can call the attorney general’s consumer protection hot line at 521-2029. Edmondson’s Consumer Protection Unit has statewide jurisdiction to investigate and prosecute violations of the state’s Consumer Protection Act.
