Oklahoma airman charged in bomb case

Published: October 31, 2013

ALTUS (AP) — An airman at Altus Air Force Base in southwestern Oklahoma has been formally charged with possession of bomb-making materials.

Online court records show that 26-year-old Timothy Francis Carey appeared in Jackson County District Court without an attorney on Thursday. Carey remains jailed on $75,000 bond in the case.

Court records show that Carey has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation and that his next hearing is scheduled for Nov. 19.

Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy has said authorities began investigating Carey after witnesses said Carey had told them he had explosives and could use them. Murphy says no bombs were found, but materials for making a bomb were recovered. has disabled the comments for this article.
