GEORGETOWN, Texas — Oklahoma Baptist picked up its first football win since 1940, beating Southwestern University 42-21 on Saturday.
OBU, playing its first season since the program disbanded for financial reasons, got 229 yards passing and two touchdowns from quarterback Cale Grauer. Darryl Fields ran for 151 yards, and Jordan Barnes rushed for 138 to give OBU its first 100-yard rushers of the season. Nyko Symonds caught six passes for 103 yards for the Bison (1-5).
“My concern was that the kids would lose heart,” OBU coach Chris Jensen said. “We have kids that aren't used to that and a university that isn't used to that, but they kept the faith and got it done. ”
The Bison had 534 yards of total offense. OBU held Southwestern to 358 yards of offense, getting interceptions from Nelson Mederios and Clint Wilson.
The Bison play host to Wayland Baptist at 2 p.m. Saturday.
