NORMAN — Oklahoma put up a good fight in its Big 12 baseball game Friday night against Kansas State but couldn't come up with a win.

In a battle between teams fighting for the last berth in the upcoming league tournament, K-State was the one that connected on the first blow, beating the Sooners 6-4 before 690 fans at Mitchell Park.

Kansas State improved to 24-25 overall and 8-14 in the Big 12. The Wildcats moved into a seventh-place tie with Kansas in the league standings. Oklahoma fell to 29-21-1 and 6-15-1. The Sooners are ninth in the Big 12 and need to finish in eighth place to qualify for the postseason tournament May 21-25 at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.

Drew Biery and Justin Bloxom had three hits each for Kansas State. Biery and Jason King each had two RBIs.

Mike Gosse hit his sixth home run of the season for Oklahoma, a two-run shot in the third inning that drew the Sooners within 4-2.

The series continues today with a 7 p.m. game.

Castiglione has made some great hires, but Golloway has to be his worst. If only the Wichita State coach hadn't changed his mind it could have been a whole different story.
