Oklahoma basketball: Ex-Sooner Eduardo Najera retires from NBA
EDUARDO NAJERA — The former Oklahoma basketball great is retiring to become head coach of an NBA D-League team.
Former University of Oklahoma basketball great Eduardo Najera is retiring from the NBA to coach the Texas Legends of the NBA D-League, according to a published report.

According to an ESPN.com report, Najera's first significant coaching experience will include an ownership stake and involve a role in the Dallas Mavericks' front office. The Legends are co-owned by Mavericks president Donnie Nelson.
Najera, 36, was the first Mexican-born player drafted by an NBA team. He will become the first Mexican-born coach in the D-League.
Najera arrived on the OU campus in 1995 speaking very little English and redshirted as a freshman to learn the language. He averaged 13.1 points and 7.2 rebounds in his four-year career at OU, leading the Sooners to four straight NCAA Tournaments.
Taken 38th overall in the 2000 NBA Draft, he spent 12 NBA seasons with five teams – including two stints with Dallas, averaging 4.7 points and 3.9 rebounds.
ESPN reported Najera is expecting to announce his plans Wednesday at a press conference in Mexico City.
