NORMAN — Oklahoma junior-to-be Isaiah Cousins practiced “full speed” Monday as he recovers from a gunshot wound, Sooners coach Lon Kruger said Tuesday.

Cousins was shot in his left shoulder on May 27 in his hometown of Mount Vernon, N.Y., during a gang-related shooting.

“Isaiah’s doing great,” Kruger said. “He practiced full speed yesterday. He was very lucky to come out of it as he did. … That bullet could’ve gone anywhere.”

Neither Cousins nor anyone in his group were involved with the gangs but were bystanders when he was struck as he walked to a friend’s house.

In a story posted on SoonerSports.com on Monday, OU athletic trainer Alex Brown said Cousins could be cleared to fully return at any time.

“Young people get well really fast,” Brown said. “He might walk in tomorrow and say, ‘Hey, I’m ready to go.’ We’re getting close to that point.”

Cousins apparently did just that this week.
