Oklahoma basketball: Jordan Woodard sits late in Sooners' loss

by Ryan Aber Published: January 14, 2014

Oklahoma freshman point guard Jordan Woodard came out of the game with just less than seven minutes remaining and the Sooners up by a pair.

Woodard never returned to the game as the Sooners fell to Kansas State 72-66 at Bramlage Coliseum on Tuesday night.

The Sooners' freshman point guard wasn't injured. Sooners coach Lon Kruger just liked what he was seeing from backup Je'lon Hornbeak.

“No, he's fine,” Kruger said afterward when asked if Woodard was injured. “Emotionally maybe a little bit, but he'll bounce back. Je'lon was giving us good direction out there. Jordan will bounce back from it.”

The Wildcats outscored Oklahoma 16-8 after the switch.

Woodard was just 1 of 5 from the floor, finishing with five points, two assists, two steals and two turnovers.

Hornbeak, in his fourth game back after sitting out four with a broken foot, had one point on 0-of-7 shooting and had three assists and a turnover.

In the season's first 13 games, Ryan Spangler was shooting just 50 percent (25 of 50) from the free-throw line.

Early in the season, the Sooners' sophomore forward was 3 of 9 in a game against North Texas and missed all four of his tries against Seton Hall.

But since Big 12 play began, Spangler has been excellent from the stripe. Tuesday, Spangler hit nine of his 11 free throws.

In four conference games, Spangler is 20 of 23 (87 percent) from the line, second-best on the team.
