Oklahoma freshman point guard Jordan Woodard was struggling a bit going into Saturday's game at Texas Tech.
Twice in three games, Woodard had been on the bench late in close games as Sooners coach Lon Kruger elected instead to go with sophomore Je'lon Hornbeak at the point.
Against the Red Raiders, though, Woodard picked up an assist less than two minutes into the game and hit a 3-pointer less than a minute later and was off and running.
In Oklahoma's 74-65 win over the Red Raiders, Woodard had his best game since Big 12 play began.
He had 15 points, eight assists and a pair of steals with just three turnovers as the Sooners won for the third consecutive game.
Woodard thanked the Sooners' coaching staff and his teammates for the performance.
“They wanted me to have more control on the point guard spot of the game — especially on the road,” Woodard said. “I've been going through a rough patch, but my teammates kept me up throughout this stretch in Big 12 play. They kept me confident and found me in some good spots.”
SOONERS CONVERT MISTAKES
The defense has been dicey at times for the Sooners, but Oklahoma turned in one of its most complete defensive performances of the season against the Red Raiders.
The Sooners forced five quick turnovers early in the game and converted all of them into baskets on the other end.
For the game, Oklahoma converted 11 Texas Tech turnovers into 14 points while giving the ball up seven times, tying a season low.
The Red Raiders had just three points off Sooner giveaways.
In addition to Woodard's two steals, Buddy Hield added a pair.
The Sooners get just one day off before returning for the first Bedlam meeting of the season, at 8 p.m. Monday at Lloyd Noble Center. Oklahoma State hasn't won in Norman since 2004.
