The Oklahoman’s Stephanie Kuzydym took questions about OU football and OU basketball from readers in today’s Power Lunch Chat. Join our Power Lunch Chats Monday-Friday at 11 a.m. on NewsOK.com/Sports. Here’s a look at today’s Q&A:
11:00 a.m.
Hi everyone. Hope you had a good start to your week. Here we go.
11:00 a.m.
i dont understand why ok state is getting all this talk about how great they are when ou has done the same they have. what gives here?
11:02 a.m.
Max - It's a great question. I think that 19-point loss to Iowa State hurt the talk about Oklahoma State a bit. Then also, they don't have Marcus Smart - and when you have a freshman like that, the media clings to it and mentions him all he can. I'm not sure why a senior like Osby hasn't gained more talk to equal that of Smart - but it's probably because Smart really is a sound basketball player at a young age and that excites people.
11:03 a.m.
With the DL-coaching upheaval is Toby Johnson still a possibility? If he were to sign on what would he be bringing? Thanks.
11:04 a.m.
Toby Johnson doesn't seem like a possibility at all - since at 2 p.m. today he's set to announce between Auburn and Mississippi State.
11:04 a.m.
i say overall ou has outplayed osu especially in the 2 games they have played against each other. what do you say
11:06 a.m.
Max - I've seen a whole lot more of OU playing live, but I'd have to say I agree. Oklahoma has played some incredible basketball against Oklahoma State and the big difference between the two games was Marcus Smart sitting on the bench and not for OSU. For Oklahoma, it was 10 guys. Also, I don't believe that was a flagrant on Osby. They apparently say he pushed his man to the ground. Video replay shows Osby immediately sticking out his hand to lift him back up.
11:06 a.m.
Predict OU's record for the rest of the regular season. How many losses in the final games would put them out of the tournament?
11:07 a.m.
William. I'm going to say 5-1. I think it's extremely possible they win their next six games but I'm going to give a little wiggle room for an ISU team that is solid on the perimeter. Oklahoma can struggle with that. I'm not exactly ure the number of losses that would put them out of the tournament as much as also the type. If they lose to TCU and Texas Tech and Iowa State and Baylor, it could put them close.
11:08 a.m.
Thoughts on Bedlam, Stephanie? I thought the Sooners played well enough to win - just a couple of costly mental mistakes down the stretch!
11:08 a.m.
Crimzone - I totally agree. It was all there. It was one mistakes - and often that's the difference in the game. You had three different guys score 18 points for OU. That is incredible. That's called stepping up.
11:08 a.m.
Steph - Any chance Osby gets drafted? He is playing some great basketball right now.
11:09 a.m.
JoeKnows - not sure how high, but yes I believe so.
11:09 a.m.
boy o boy the big 12 toury is heading home soon. if ya can answer the question. name (men) 2 teams that will be playing in championship game?
11:10 a.m.
Hmm. I'm going to say Kansas State vs. Oklahoma State. I'm not sure how the brackets will end up and if that will be possible but I think there are some nice surprises in both those teams. I think Kansas is still a solid basketball team but they've truly shown they are unbeatable.
11:10 a.m.
How is it there have been zero rumors floating around for replacements for Shipp and Kittle? Rumors on Patton's replacement broke almost immediately...
11:12 a.m.
Jason - I believe there are rumors about some of Mike Stoops' former assistant coaches. And I'm not quite sure. Often it depends on how stirs the media rumors up as to how quickly they take off.
11:12 a.m.
how is buddy progressing with his injury? thanks
11:14 a.m.
Remmie - one of the reporters yesterday joked and asked if he'd be ready for Wednesday's game against TCU. Buddy responded - to be continued. His progress, so far, seems great. He's working out a lot with the trainer and strength & conditioning coach. He's always bouncing a ball. He's lifting weights. He's shooting from a chair and he's staying off his foot. During the OSU game, athletics trainer Alex Brown came over and looked like he told him to sit down. So they're being protective of it but if anything, he's only going to become a better ball handler and shooter from this. And he's still full of energy.
11:14 a.m.
big games KU-OSU and Thunder up at Houston...who ya like in both games
11:15 a.m.
Kansas and Thunder. I think Kansas is back to being Kansas and will do something different against OSU.
11:15 a.m.
who has been your favorite interview on the MBB team?
11:16 a.m.
Remmie - Hmm. Probably Buddy because you never know what you're going to walk away from him with. And Amath says pretty funny things sometimes too.
11:16 a.m.
What grade would you give Coach Kruger for this year up to this point?
11:19 a.m.
A in everything but truly understanding why Amath plays on the perimeter so much. I know fans have questioned it and I believe he's 4-for-20 back there. I know he is small for a post player in the NBA and he really isn't a broad-shouldered guy if you look at him next to everyone else. I just don't understand why he leaves Romero in there to defend for himself. Fitzgerald goes straight to the post when he comes in. But Kruger isn't telling Amath not to. I have asked him and he basically said because Amath has played well out there. I feel like that's been his one answer all year that isn't explained well enough. I understand why he switches between point guards and why he moved Je'lon to wing but Amath on the perimeter as much as he is surprises me.
11:28 a.m.
Any chance there's a DT, who is solid but not receiving playing time at another school, who transfers to OU during the spring or summer and is playing for us next fall?
11:30 a.m.
Boomerd up - always a chance but probably not likely. Most guys have committed or signed by this point and are just waiting to come for summer. They could switch incoming freshman Dominique Alexander from the LB they said they wanted him to be to a DT.
11:31 a.m.
That's all from me this week. Thanks for joining me. Oklahoma basketball plays on Wednesday night at Texas Tech and again on Saturday against Baylor. Have a great week and thanks for reading The Oklahoman.
