Oklahoma basketball: Nicole Griffin coming off subpar game

The Sooners (15-4 overall, 5-2 Big 12) are coming off an 82-65 loss at No. 1 Baylor, during which junior center Nicole Griffin managed just three rebounds and six points on 2-of-12 shooting.

For the season, though, Griffin is averaging 10.7 points per game — nearly doubling her sophomore-year scoring average.

Wednesday's game begins an important stretch for Oklahoma. After facing TCU (7-11, 0-7 Big 12), the Sooners travel to West Virginia and Kansas State before returning home to meet Oklahoma State and Iowa State.

Griffin spoke with The Oklahoman about what OU took from its loss to Baylor, the challenges TCU presents and her personal performance this season.

Q: What did your team learn from the Baylor loss?

A: “We know what worked and what didn't work. They got a lot of points in transition, so we know what we need to focus on and try to take away next time, and what we need to continue working on for the next time we play them.”

How important is this next stretch of games for this team?

“We're really focusing one game at a time, but this whole next stretch is very important. We're trying to just get one win, another win, and not look too far ahead and get overwhelmed.”
