Going into Saturday's game against No. 9 Iowa State, Oklahoma coach Lon Kruger was scratching his head over his team's defensive performances.

The Sooners had struggled defensively and had one of the best offenses in the nation coming to town.

But Oklahoma came up with some critical stops late to come out with an 87-82 upset.

“I thought the second half there we got two or three stops that we really needed,” Kruger said. “We've got a long way to go defensively but happy for a couple of good, successful trips there.”

So it wasn't perfect, but the Sooners will take it.

The Sooners forced Iowa State to turn the ball over 13 times and converted those turnovers into 25 points, out-rebounded the Cyclones 41-34 and held Iowa State to just two second-chance points.

WOODARD SHUT OUT FROM LINE

Oklahoma freshman point guard Jordan Woodard came into Saturday's game leading the Big 12 in both free-throw attempts and makes.

But Woodard was shut out at the line for the first time this season.

Woodard still had an impact on the game, though, with five assists and just one turnover.
