Oklahoma basketball notebook: Sooners turn back the clock at McCasland Field House

OU staged a flashback to the 1940s for Monday's game, complete with Frank Sinatra music.

The video boards in McCasland Field House played the entire game in black and white. Big band music filled the rafters, and during multiple timeouts, a man in a suit serenaded the crowd with Frank Sinatra songs.

It was a flashback to the 1940s, but the 2012 Sooners earned their ninth victory of the season by defeating Texas A&M Corpus Christi 72-42 in front of an estimated crowd of 2,501 on New Year's Eve.

“The field house is great," Oklahoma coach Lon Kruger said. “Good to see a good crowd. Good activity. I though the crowd the other night was fantastic and was good and into it.

“I think people enjoyed the opportunity to come back into the field house and relive some memories. Some players from the '40s were back and that's good to see too.”

FIRST REGULAR-SEASON GAME AT FIELD HOUSE IN THREE DECADES

Oklahoma played its last game of 2012 in the McCasland Field House, where a regular-season game hadn't been played in more than 35 years.

The last regular-season basketball game in McCasland was during the 1974-75 season. In Alvan Adams' final game, the OU standout scored 42 points and grabbed 25 rebounds in route to an 84-79 victory against Iowa State.
