NORMAN — Sharane Campbell said Oklahoma learned a lot about itself from Thursday's 72-68 home loss to Iowa State.
“I learned that we fight,” Campbell said. “Four starters fouled out and the bench came in, but we still fought.”
On the flip side, though, there are certainly areas where improvement is needed. She cited OU's nearly six-minute scoring drought in the first half as Exhibit A.
“We were stuck on 20,” Campbell said. “That's not us.
“There were also some 50-50 balls and offensive rebounds we should've gotten.”
The Sooners (18-6 overall, 8-4 Big 12) will look to get back on track Sunday at 1:30 p.m., when they meet Kansas (15-8, 6-6 Big 12) inside Allen Fieldhouse.
Campbell, a former Star Spencer High School standout, spoke with The Oklahoman about OU's foul troubles against Iowa State, her personal improvement and Sunday's matchup with the Jayhawks.
Q: You were one of four starters to foul out Thursday. What do you think caused all those problems?
A: “The game was called touchy. It wasn't the most physical game we've played ... it was just a touchy game.
“But you just have to go along learning. That's every game ... ‘How are they gonna call it?' It's just stuff you've gotta figure out within the first four-minute interval of the game.”
