Oklahoma basketball: Sooners beat Texas Tech for fifth straight win

The win was Oklahoma's third Big 12 victory in as many games and its fifth consecutive win. Five Sooners scored in double digits, with Osby leading the way with 17 points.

Texas Tech (8-7, 1-3) had two scorers in double digits, with Dejan Kravic leading the Red Raiders with 20 points.

“Good win,” Oklahoma coach Lon Kruger said. “One we needed to protect our home court and keep moving forward.”

Oklahoma's win was just another in start to a surprising season. The Sooners (12-3, 3-0) have now opened the Big 12 season by stealing a game from West Virginia in Morgantown and protecting their home court twice before they head into a seven-game stretch that includes two games against No. 16 Kansas State, two against No. 4 Kansas and one against Baylor.

Throughout those first Big 12 games, Osby has been the most consistent Sooner, but on Wednesday night he had a little help.

The game started off slow. Osby scored only two points and was replaced with senior Casey Arent with six minutes left in the half. A defensive rebound and a couple minutes later, Arent was replaced by Andrew Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald stepped in for the Sooners and scored 10 points in 11 minutes of first-half play.

Freshman guard Buddy Hield played aggressively throughout, finishing with 16 points. Hield and Osby both improved in the second half after only scoring a bucket each in the first.
