Oklahoma basketball: Three things to watch for in the OU women's game against Iowa State

— The Oklahoma women's basketball team returns to action Sunday afternoon, when it hosts 14th-ranked Iowa State inside Lloyd Noble Center.

Here are three things to watch as the Sooners try to improve to 2-0 in Big 12 play against the unbeaten Cyclones:

Interior battle

Oklahoma lost all three meetings with Iowa State last season, and it was largely due to Iowa State's overwhelming advantage inside the paint.

In the three games combined, Iowa State — led by standout forwards Hallie Christofferson and Chelsea Poppens — outscored Oklahoma 104-62 in the paint.

Poppens is gone, but Christofferson is back, averaging nearly 21 points per game this season.

The Sooners outscored Texas Tech 32-10 in the paint in Thursday's Big 12 opener, but Iowa State presents a much greater challenge for senior center Nicole Griffin and sophomore forward Kaylon Williams.

Fouls

Iowa State's size and physical dominance can often get opposing teams into foul trouble, and that's exactly what happened in all three meetings with Oklahoma last season.
