Oklahoma basketball: West Virginia women upend No. 21 Sooners

Christal Caldwell scored 24 points and freshman Bria Holmes came off the bench to score 17 to lead West Virginia past Oklahoma 82-63 Sunday.

The Mountaineers got a boost from Holmes, a freshman reserve, who matched her career high with 17 points. She was one of four Mountaineers who scored in double figures. Christal Caldwell led WVU in scoring with 24 points, while Jess Harlee added 12 and Ayana Dunning 11.

West Virginia held Oklahoma (16-5, 6-3) to 22.7 percent (5 of 22) from 3-point range. The Sooners ranked third in the country at 39.5 percent per game.

Taylor Palmer, who scored 30 points in the Mountaineers' 71-68 loss to the Sooners Jan. 2, got into early foul trouble and only played five minutes.

The Sooners are on the road again Wednesday, facing Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan., at 7 p.m.
