Blood Institute says donations not needed
The
Oklahoma Blood Institute reports there is no emergency need for Oklahomans to donate blood to the shooting victims at
Fort Hood,
Texas.
OBI officials contacted the fort hospital and
Scott White Hospital in Temple, Texas, and were told they didn’t need more blood products.
OBI spokeswoman
Leslie Gamble said hundreds of people in
Oklahoma gave blood this week, so there is enough supply for state hospitals and to send to Fort Hood if later needed.
"As the eleventh largest, not-for-profit blood center in the
United States, Oklahoma Blood Institute provides every drop of blood needed by patients in 150 medical facilities in the area,” Gamble said. "We are also a key resource, nationally, for blood supply when special needs arise.”
