Sonic to give
out free floats
Sonic drive-ins plan to celebrate the start of summer by handing out free root beer floats this Wednesday from 8 p.m. to midnight. A 10-ounce float will be complimentary to Sonic customers, available traditional or blended. The Oklahoma City-based restaurant plans to give away more than 3.5 million floats during the event. Also, starting Thursday, customers will receive a free Route 44 drink upgrade with the purchase of any combo meal, Sonic said.
Forests, trees are analyzed
Oklahoma Forestry staff began conducting an inventory of tree species and forest health conditions this week in six central
Oklahoma counties. Grant, Garfield, Kay, Logan, Noble and Oklahoma counties are included in the Forest Inventory and Analysis survey that will be used to determine the type of forests in the state and the potential health issues facing them. Randomly selected plots of land in both forested and non-forested areas will be analyzed, and private landowners will be notified if their land is included in the study.
Goodyear Tire lawsuit filed
The
U.S. Justice Department filed suit Friday in Oklahoma City against
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. alleging it violated a federal employment law in 2007 by failing promptly to re-employ
Michael J. Ellis in his factory job when he returned from active military duty. Ellis, who suffered an injury related to his military service, became unable to perform his job with Goodyear in 2005, the suit said. While the company was seeking a new job for Ellis, he was recalled to active duty, the suit said. The complaint alleges that after Ellis’ honorable discharge in 2007, Goodyear delayed rehiring him for 51 weeks while requesting medical documentation that was not required or permitted under federal law. The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 requires employers to re-employ a returning service member in the position the employee would have held had his or her employment not been interrupted by military service.
