26 arrested at checkpoint

Oklahoma County sheriff’s deputies made 26 arrests at a Halloween night sobriety checkpoint in Oklahoma City, spokesman Mark Myers said Sunday in a news release. Deputies manned the checkpoint on SW 15 between Portland and Meridian avenues from 10:30 p.m. to 3 a.m., including the extra hour for the end of daylight saving time, Myers said. Sixteen arrests were on DUI complaints, five were for outstanding warrants, three were for driver’s license infractions and two were not specified. Deputies also issued 90 citations, 34 warnings and impounded 39 vehicles, Myers said.

Snow route training set
Oklahoma City street crews will undergo snow and ice removal training from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Crews will practice operating the city snow plows, salt brine sprayers and driving the city’s downtown snow routes. The snow plow training will take place at SW 15 and Miller. Crews will train using the salt brine sprayer on bridge routes. The salt brine sprayer is a new system that allows crews to pre-treat bridges with saltwater brine before ice forms.

Agency plans meetings
The state Department of Rehabilitation Services’ town hall meetings in search of ways to improve services for people with hearing disabilities continue this month. People attending the meetings can share their ideas about what needs to be done, what gaps need to be filled and what service areas need improvement. The next meeting will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Executive Inn, 3134 NW Cache Road, in Lawton. For more information, call 522-7930.
