OSU drone design advances

An aerospace engineering team from Oklahoma State University has been picked for the next phase of the BORDERS Small Unmanned Aircraft System Competition. The Department of Homeland Security chose OSU for its unmanned aircraft design that integrates a quiet propulsion system into a small aerodynamic platform. Other universities chosen include Purdue, Texas A&M and Saint Louis University. Administered by the National Center for Border Security and Immigration at the University of Arizona, the project looks at unmanned aerial systems for use by first responders in disaster recovery, fire and police response and search and rescue.

Facebook adds gift card service

Facebook's newest e-commerce idea: A gift card users can buy that can be spent at retailers and restaurants such as Target, Jamba Juice and Olive Garden. Facebook last fall introduced a gifts service that lets people send chocolate, flowers and other actual goods to Facebook friends. Facebook Inc. said Thursday the reusable card will be available to U.S. users gradually. To send gifts, users click on the “gifts” icon on their friends' Facebook pages or with birthday notifications. The company said it expects the gifts portion of its revenue to stay small this year.
