Jobs agency warns of scam

The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission is urging Oklahomans to be wary of scams aimed at those who receive unemployment benefits. The agency has received reports from western Oklahoma of Spanish-speaking customers who were offered fee-based translation services for use in filing their unemployment benefit claims. Translation into Spanish and many other languages is already available to customers at no cost through the agency's call center and Workforce Oklahoma locations. To contact the nearest Workforce Oklahoma center, call toll-free (888) 980-9675. To file an unemployment claim through the Employment Security Commission, call 525-1500 in the Oklahoma City area or (800) 555-1554 from all other areas. Claims also may be filed online at www.unemployment.ok.gov.

Grand Lake water plant gets OK

The Oklahoma Water Resources Board approved $5 million in loans for a new water treatment plant in Monkey Island on Grand Lake in northeastern Oklahoma. The water treatment plant will process 1.5 million gallons a day and will be housed in a 9,800-square-foot metal building. The loans will also cover the drilling of five water wells and the creation of two water storage tanks. The Grand Lake Public Works Authority sought the loans to switch its potable water source from surface water to groundwater.
