Any record-breaking fish on Oklahoma lakes lately?
Not any state records. I have seen some lake records come through lately, such as 2.9-pound crappie at Hudson. I have seen photos of some nice fish being caught around the state, smallouth at Eufaula and Texoma and a 110-pound paddlefish caught at Grand. Fishing should be getting really good in the coming weeks for bass and crappie.
Has the winter bird count wrapped up? Do you know any results?
I think so, but sorry, I don't know specific results of any
I think it's rabbit season (gee, I feel like Elmer Fudd), but what's the next big hunting season?
Spring turkey season which begins April 6. A youth turkey season is March 30-31. Turkey hunting ranks only second to deer hunting in popularity these days in Oklahoma.
Anything new with hunting and fishing regulations that I need to know right away?
Nothing immediately. The new fishing regulations that passed last month doesn't go into effect until next year. The new hunting regs may begin this fall.
Any idea how quail season was this year?
Terrible.
Has the Wildlife Department started thinking about any longterm plans or goals as a result of the state's drought conditions?
I am not sure what goals or plans they could make along those lines. I am not aware of anything expect maybe pray for rain.
