Oklahoma Catholic council plans women's conference

The Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women will host the Women of Faith/Women of Action Conference Aug. 18 at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church, 7336 W Britton Road, in Oklahoma City.

The fourth annual “Women of Faith/Women of Action Conference” will be Aug. 18 at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church, 7336 W Britton Road, in Oklahoma City.

The conference, sponsored by the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women, is open to all women, men and youth. Doors will open at 7:30 a.m. for registration, and juice, coffee and doughnuts will be served. A prayer service, led by the Rev. Stephen Bird, will be held at 8:30 a.m., followed by the guest speakers' presentations. The day will end with Mass.

Conference topics and speakers include “Top Model to Role Model” by Leah Darrow; “What Moms Want — Balancing work, Family, and Faith” by Lisa Hendey and “Raising Faith-Filled Teens/Children in Today's Technological World”; and “Walking to Heaven with Mary” by Mary Diane Steltenkamp.

Darrow, a former contestant on the reality TV show “America's Next Top Model,” is an apologist for Catholic Answers who speaks about forgiveness, true love and the ability to change one's life, drawing upon her own experiences.

Hendey, author of “The Handbook for Catholic Moms: Nurturing Your Heart, Mind, Body and Soul,” is the founder and editor of, a website focusing on the Catholic faith, Catholic parenting and family life, plus Catholic cultural topics for all ages. Steltenkamp, a registered nurse, spiritual director and retreat facilitator, is the director of the Faith Community Nursing Program at Catholic Charities.
