Oklahoma Centennial High School Hosts 1st Bison Chess Tourney

The Oklahoma Centennial High School Bison Chess Club held its first intra-school chess tournament on Thursday, May 15. This is the first year for the Bison Chess Club which meets Tuesdays and Wednesdays each week before school. Eight students participated in the tournament. They were Rodney Bryant, Shirah Ruddell, Terez Wilson, Shawn Wilson, Marcus Burris, Trey Edwards, Calbe Ervin, and Nathaniel Henderson.

The tournament was a double elimination contest. First prize was $15, second $10, and third $5. Third place was won by Terez Wilson who defeated second place finisher Marcus Burris twice to win the championship. Third place was Trey Edwards.

All of the students enjoyed the contest. They look forward to next year's chess club. Mark Lyle and Lynn Green are the club's faculty sponsors.
