SAND SPRINGS — A church in Sand Springs canceled its Sunday services after a young member was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis.

A local television station reports that Word of Life canceled its services Sunday after learning of the child's diagnosis. The church says the child is hospitalized and receiving treatment.

The church says the youth had attended three nights of summer Bible school the past week. The church says it canceled services out of caution to minimize the risk to other congregants.

The church says all areas are being cleaned and disinfected, and parents are encouraged to watch their children for symptoms.
